CrossFit is a strength-and-conditioning programme built around constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. It combines lifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, jumping, carrying, climbing and bodyweight work rather than specialising in one discipline.

Workouts of the day (WODs) may include Olympic bars and bumper plates, dumbbells, medicine balls, plyometric boxes, ropes, rigs and cardio equipment. A coach typically organises training into cycles that build strength and cardiovascular fitness over time.

The broad movement menu is intended to develop general physical preparedness. Men and women of different ages can benefit when the workout is scaled, coached and recovered from appropriately.
