CrossFit combines constantly varied functional movement with high-intensity work, measurable progress and a strong training community. Its workouts draw from gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, running and rowing and develop endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.
What to expect
Daily WODs vary by box and coach. Sessions may be short but demanding, and movements can be scaled for beginners or anyone returning from a limitation. A good onboarding process teaches technique before full-intensity workouts, while coaches help members recognise fatigue, pain and overtraining.
Time, repetitions and loads provide useful benchmarks. Record them to measure personal progress rather than treating the whiteboard as a reason to ignore form or recovery.
