CrossFit can feel like a new relationship at first: new movements, quick progress and a supportive community. Plateaus are normal, however. When benchmark times stop improving or a lift stalls, use the following principles to rekindle progress:
- Listen to your body. Distinguish normal fatigue from pain that may indicate injury, and keep technique ahead of load.
- Share a realistic goal. A coach and training partners can provide accountability, but progress should be measured in achievable steps.
- Use a progression. A well-designed programme makes volume, technique and adaptation visible; work with a coach on weaknesses.
- Take rest. A planned break or accessory block can provide a new stimulus and let the body recover.
- Trust small steps. An extra kilogram or a second less in a workout is meaningful progress.
