The seventh round of a year-long air-pollution inspection programme was completed on July 20, 2017. Between July 7 and July 20, inspection teams checked 5,322 businesses and organisations and found environmental non-compliances in 1,389 of them.
The findings included unlicensed small polluters, missing or poorly operated pollution-control facilities and volatile organic compound (VOC) control problems. VOC issues accounted for 38.6% of the problems found during the round.
The report identified rubber and plastics manufacturing, machinery manufacturing, coating and spraying, plywood, packaging, casting and printing among the industries contributing significant VOC emissions. An eighth inspection round began on July 21 in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region and surrounding areas.
