What is IWF?

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is the international governing body for weightlifting, recognised by the International Olympic Committee. It promotes and governs the sport, supports fair-play competition and provides equal conditions for athletes across its member federations.

Only barbells meeting IWF specifications and approval may be used in weightlifting competitions under its jurisdiction.

IWF competition equipment also includes colour-coded discs, two 2.5 kg collars per barbell and compliant electronic scales.
